Zuluru in Peterborough

Posted by Administrator on Thu, Apr 09 2015 23:08:00

We are pleased to announce today that the Peterborough Ultimate League has joined the Zuluru family. PUL used Zuluru’s ladder scheduling system behind the scenes last summer, and rolled the full system out on a trial basis this spring. Feedback from admins and players alike has been positive, so the decision has been made to adopt it officially.

It seems that each organization has something that they do a little differently from others, and in PUL's case this is the Carbon Flip, an environmentally-friendly method they have pioneered for replacing the traditional disc flip at the beginning of the game with a measure based on the number of cars each team brings to the game. This option has now been incorporated into Zuluru, enabled through a configuration setting. If Zuluru looks "almost right" for your organization, contact greg@zuluru.net and we'll see what we can do to support your "quirks"!

This announcement means that Zuluru is now handling all things ultimate for the “Big Six” of Ontario leagues, and pushes our active user base well over 10,000 people. Welcome PULers!

Version 1.8.0

Posted by Administrator on Fri, Feb 13 2015 00:04:00

We are very pleased to announce the release of version 1.8.0! This is the first version number increment since last April, but don't let that fool you into thinking nothing has been going on. There have been a ton of changes, with over 400 commits to source control, just nothing that felt substantial enough to warrant a new version number. However, support for youth sports and multi-sport sites are now both stable (though surely there will be additional future improvements in both areas), and this is a big enough change to mark a new milestone.

Thank you to Connect Think and First Baptist Athletics of Indianapolis for funding this development and allowing the results to be included in the public release of Zuluru!

Youth sports in Indianapolis

We are pleased to announce that support for youth sports in Zuluru has been greatly improved, with the addition of features like parental accounts, as a result of a partnership with Connect Think and First Baptist Athletics of Indianapolis. FBA contracted Connect Think to improve their web site; Connect Think proposed Zuluru to them, and then subcontracted us to enhance functionality as required to fully support their needs.

The project was completed on time and on budget, at a reduced development rate offered in exchange for allowing the code to be included in the public release of Zuluru. Everyone wins!

Details

Where all accounts were previously considered to be players (and hence asked for details like height and skill level), Zuluru now provides the option of parental accounts (with reduced data requirements) with one or more children (no contact information collected for the children), and the ability for the parent to "act as" the child in order to perform registration and online payment, checking schedules, updating attendance and the like.

Administrative reports include information on the child as well as all contacts to ensure that communications channels are open for organizers.

This project has also made strides in support for multiple sports within a single site, functionality that will be further improved in the next short while, culminating in a new 1.8.0 release later in February.

Zuluru in Madison

Zuluru welcomes West Side Ultimate in Madison, WI! Came across WSU while Googling ourselves, they got Zuluru up and running with no questions. Best of luck to this new league spreading the reach of our favourite sport.

If you find others using Zuluru that we don't know about, drop us a line! We love to get feedback from as many sources as possible on what we can do to improve the product.

Version 1.7.5

Posted by Administrator on Tue, Apr 22 2014 23:14:00

A revision update like 1.7.4 to 1.7.5 normally doesn't get an announcement, but the changes in this are pretty substantial. Not quite substantial enough to warrant going to version 1.8, but enough to comment on!

The focus of 1.7.5 has been the registration system, with the following changes made:

  • Streamlined checkout page.
  • Added new payment statuses (deposit, partial, reserved).
  • Added ability to issue full and partial refunds and credits, transfer payments from one registration to another, and use credits to pay for other registrations.
  • Added multiple price points for events, each with their own rules, open and close dates.
  • Registrants can now edit their questionnaire answers and payment choices (if applicable) before payment is made.
  • Added option to allow unpaid registrations to be reserved for a per-event configurable time.
  • Added features to automate management of waiting lists.

Along the way, there have also been a number of non-registration changes:

  • Playoff schedule editing now allows you to set game names and adjust matchups if required.
  • Added bulk user import function.
  • Custom headers on some emails should improve delivery rates.
  • The team_count rule can now handle date ranges like membership_type, and include_subs like league_team_count.
  • Added a default privacy policy and default membership letter.
  • Fixed location of map marker graphics.
  • Added VCF option for importing contact information into compatible apps.
  • Added preview of spirit questionnaires, legend of spirit symbols, and a new questionnaire.

A pretty major piece of work, and one which we expect will make registration and administration that much easier for everyone. Coming up: scheduling improvements, internationalization, and more!
